In the artist's words

Born in Los Angeles County. 1963, to an African American father and a mother of Irish descent. Rejected by his mother's side of the family at birth, the new-born was left by his mother in the middle of a residential steeet. Rather than being delivered to the authorities or Social Services the child artist was taken in and raised by many different members of the community. When questioned about being abandoned by his mother, the artist's response was (with compelling sincerity ) "Well, Im more fortunate than most, I had two Daddy's and five Mamma's!"
In the 70's, 80's ans 90's growing up in Los Angeles for every young African-American male was a life that was overwhelmed with violence, gang violence, police brutality and racial tensions. Being a young man of mixed race was twice so.
The artist was affected by this environment and wound up using his artistic ability to break the law by counterfeiting money and spent time in prison.
